It all starts with an idea or a prompt. In this case it was an underwater scene. I came up with several ideas that included a cavern or a coral reef

Color Comps

Once you've narrowed down your idea to at least three you take them to color comps. Here you establish what color schemes are best and how the final will potentially look. This is almost like a mini painting.

Final

Finally you create the finished piece. For me it takes around 12 hours to complete a piece this detailed. But it definitely is rewarding to finish this and see how far it comes along.
